On my answers home page, it says that i cannot receive an I'M. HOW do I turn on my IMs?

I remember back in the day, if you were on Yahoo Games, someone that was not in your Messenger could leave you a message anyway. It was a dull gray box. I havn't recieved one of them in a long time. I think that I have them turned off or something. Can anyone help me?
