Fluent Spanish speakers, please help (Cronico de un Muerte Anunciada)?

Has anyone who is fluent in Spanish read this book. And if so, were you able to follow it easily, or was it extremely difficult. The reason I ask this is because my Spanish teacher recently decided to drop everyone's grades and give us a test on this book, and the test took longer than our midterm (and was harder). This is Spanish 4 (high school Spanish).
