What does it mean when you don't wake up...?

right away after having a dream about dying, being killed, etc.? I had a dream that was kind of like the movie Independence Day, with the giant spaceship. Right before it fired it's laser or whatever, just some random guy yelled out "WE'RE DYING!" and then it was just black for a while. It was not, however, like I simply wasn't dreaming at that point, but like I had died and there was just nothing. It was really weird, even more so than the schizophrenic, basball bat wielding hippy dream(lol :P).
