What information can be given concerning a 17-year-old Texan forced to live with an abusive family?
I've recently turned 17 years old and I live in Texas. I am currently in the custody of my dad, and I've been with him for about four years. However, I am absolutely sick of it. During the first year of my time with him, he made various attempts at convincing me that my mother doesn't love me. Following that, he has made many insults directed at my hobbies and my hopes for the future( I plan on being a video game designer and he has gone on and on about how video games are worse than drugs and that he expects me to be little more than dead weight and human waste if I continue to work with them). He has also told me that the reason that he will not let me live with my mom is that I will be a drug dealer if I do(both my mom AND my dad have done drugs in the past), and he has gone on, calling my mom a prostitute and various other things TO MY FACE. At the beginning of school this year, he had slapped me, forced me to the floor, choked me, and had slammed the back of my head into a refrigerator. The cop that showed up said that was only parental discipline and would do nothing about it. Also, what all could happen if I were to go to a friend's house despite what he tells me to do, even though I let him know where I am going? He has threatened to have me filed as a runaway with the cops, but I'm not sure exactly what they'll do(I have already been filed as a runaway once). I've been told by some that if I go somewhere, the cops won't be able to do anything to me and my dad will have to be the one to pick me up. I've been told by others that I'll be sent to a juvenile facility. I've been told by some that the cops will just pick me up, listen to my side of the story, and take me back home, then complain to my dad for trying to use them as a taxi service. Could I get some advice? I want out of here as soon as possible and my mom is trying to get the courts to hurry up and take care of the custody case. By the way, she lives in Texas, too, in case that affects anything.
