Adobe 8.1.1. and how to uninstall so I can replace with another version. When I try to delete it in control?

I used to have Adobe 8.1.1 on my laptop but for some reasons I cannot access it anymore. I would like to download another version but before I do that I am being asked to uninstall this 8.1.1. Naturally when I go to control panel, uninstall this program, it says error (something) so I cannot uninstall it. As my husband have a website, I need to transfer word doents to that website in the same manner (bold, etc.). But when I copy the (Word) text into the website, all the bold, underline, etc. has disappeared. So I was told that I should use PDF but it seems that I cannot download any adobe files. Can someone help me? Thanks.
