What is the function of the whale skeleton?

I have a lab for science cl and no matter how much I search online I cannot find the answers. I need to know the functions of the skeletons of the whale, cat, bat, bird, and crocodile. Even though I'm in high school my teacher is only looking for a simple non-sentence answer, if that makes sense. Please help.
