Best type of yarn for a crochet beginner?

regular ole' basic worsted weight. like red heart super saver or bernat super value, and they're cheap too. as long as you hook isn't smaller than a size I/9 you shouldn't have problems with it unless you have really high tension and/or your hands aren't relaxed. what you definitely want to avoid is is yarns that aren't "just a string", like lion fun fur.
